Neural Task Programming: Learning to Generalize Across Hierarchical Tasks
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this work, we propose a novel robot learning framework called Neural Task Programming (NTP), which bridges the idea of few-shot learning from demonstration and neural program induction. NTP takes as input a task specification (e.g., video demonstration of a task) and recursively decomposes it into finer sub-task specifications. These specifications are fed to a hierarchical neural program, where bottomlevel programs are callable subroutines that interact with the environment. We validate our method in three robot manipulation tasks. NTP achieves strong generalization across sequential tasks that exhibit hierarchal and compositional structures. The experimental results show that NTP learns to generalize well towards unseen tasks with increasing lengths, variable topologies, and changing objectives. stanfordvl.github.io/ntp/

Predictive Power of Involvement Load Hypothesis and Technique Feature Analysis across L2 Vocabulary Learning Tasks
Involvement Load Hypothesis (ILH) and Technique Feature Analysis (TFA) are two frameworks which operationalize depth of processing of a vocabulary learning task. However, there is dearth of research comparing the predictive power of the ILH and the TFA across second language (L2) vocabulary learning tasks. The present study, therefore, aimed to examine this issue across four vocabulary learning...

متن کاملCommunicating Hierarchical Neural Controllers for Learning Zero-shot Task Generalization
The ability to generalize from past experience to solve previously unseen tasks is a key research challenge in reinforcement learning (RL). In this paper, we consider RL tasks defined as a sequence of high-level instructions described by natural language and study two types of generalization: to unseen and longer sequences of previously seen instructions, and to sequences where the instructions...
متن کاملThe Effect of Output Tasks on the Noticing and Learning English Passive Structure
This study was an attempt to investigate whether output tasks, i.e., reconstruction and picturecuedwriting tasks, promote learners’ noticing of English passive structure compared to nonoutputtasks, i.e., reading comprehension and if so, which output task is more effective inenhancing learners’ noticing. In addition, this study aimed to investigate whether output tasksfacilitate learning of Engl...
متن کاملAn Investigation into the Effects of Joint Planning on Complexity, Accuracy, and Fluency across Task Complexity
The current study aimed to examine the effects of strategic planning, online planning, strategic planning and online planning combined (joint planning), and no planning on the complexity, accuracy, and fluency of oral productions in two simple and complex narrative tasks. Eighty advanced EFL learners performed one simple narrative task and a complex narrative task with 20 minutes in between. Th...
